Used the world over by digital photographers, the Macbeth Colour Checker
Chart v1 (24 squares) is the ideal reference for all indoor and outdoor
digital photography. Simply place the chart in shot (or have a model
hold it) and shoot. This photo now contains the information that will
help you grey balance your photographs and check whether the colours
are accurate.
In conjunction with digital camera profiling
software (not supplied), the Macbeth Colour Checker can also be used to create accurate
digital camera profiles.
The Colour Checker is a checkerboard array (approx A4 size) of 24
scientifically prepared coloured squares in a wide range of colours.
Many of the squares represent natural objects of special colour interest, such
as human skin, foliage and blue sky. These squares are not only the
same colour as their counterparts, but also reflect light the same way
in all parts of the visible spectrum.
The chart comes in a protective sleeve that has the actual colour values referenced so you can compare them using Photoshop etc.
As well as photography, the Colour Checker can also be used as a colour
quality evaluation tool in Graphic Arts, Electronic Publishing and
Television/Film.
The Colour Checker is supplied in a protective envelope and under normal
conditions should be replaced every 2 - 4 years in order to maintain
colour accuracy.
